Editor's note: I've tried my best for the logos and text, so feedback is appreciated! ;) Also, it's not finished yet, I'm planning on finishing this soon.
Franek Enterprises (previously known as Franek Food Products (1826-1922), Franek & Co. (1922-1935), and Franek Inc. (1935-1975)) is a technology corporation, headquartered in Franektown, Franekland. It is best known for its line of graphical operating systems (FranekOS), its line of video game devices (Franekconsole), its line of personal computers (Franekcomputer), and its line of telephony products (Franekphone).
History[]
1826-1979: Franek Food Products[]
1826-1922[]
Franek Enterprises was founded on April 29, 1826 by John William Mills (1803-1867) as Franek Food Products. Its main product lineup in that time included grain products, dairy products, canned goods, and special products, with the help of which one could quickly make a certain dish.
1922-1979[]
After the Franekphone line was announced, the company got split into two subsidiaries: Franek Food Products, and the Franek Telephony Division. Franek Food Products continued what the whole company did up to 1922. It did adopt to a changing industry though, because e.g., their lines of popcorn, potato chips, frozen burger beef, etc. were quite popular at the time.
In 1975, this subsidiary changed its name to Franek Food Enterprises, and in 1979, Franek Enterprises stopped releasing new food products.
1922-1969[]
In 1922, Franek Food Products announced their new line of telephones, called Franekphones, and two new subsidiaries were created: Franek Food Products, and the Franek Telephony Division. The name of the company as a whole was changed to Franek & Co.
The first Franekphone model, model TE1000, released in 1923. This model had remarkably good sound quality for the time, and was popular. Production of model TE1000 and model TE1001 (improved version of model TE1000, released in 1924) ended in 1933. Every two years, a completely new model was released, this happened for the first time in 1925, with model TE1010. Its improved version, released in 1926, was called TE1011. This naming convention continued until model TE1271, which released in 1976. Starting in 1977, a new naming convention was introduced: in 1977, the Franekphone 77.0 released, followed by the Franekphone 77.1 in 1978, the Franekphone 79.0 in 1979, etc. The most recent Franekphone model (as of November 2, 2025) is called Franekphone 125.0. Also, the "model" moniker was dropped. The only exception to the post-1977 naming convention was in 1999 (Franekphone 2000), and in 2000 (Franekphone 2000.1).
In 1935, Franek & Co. was incorporated, and changed its name to Franek Inc. to reflect that.
In 1952, Franek Inc. entered the calculator sector by releasing the Franek Math Machine. Version 1 entered the market in 1953. It supported basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with natural, decimal, and negative numbers. If you were to attempt to perform an operation with an undefined number as a result (such as division by 0), it would present an error message. This machine was quite big, the size of a room. Version 2, released in 1955, added raising to a power and extracting roots as operations, but still didn't allow complex operations to be done at once. The machine was also smaller. Version 3, released in 1957, was even smaller than version 2, and allowed complex operations, and certain other functions, such as exponent. By 1979, version 14 was small enough to easily fit in the hand.
In 1953, Franek Inc. created the Franek Medical Technology Division. This subsidiary of Franek Inc. (later Franek Enterprises), produces various medical technology.
In 1963, Franek Inc. created the Franek Television Division. This subsidiary released, you probably guessed it, TVs.
1969-1991: diversification[]
1969-1975: Franek Inc.[]
In 1969, the Franek Telephony Division, the Franek Television Division, and Franek Mathematical Products were all fused into one subsidiary: the Franek Hardware Division. In that same year, a new device, the Franekconsole, was announced. This device allowed you to play games on your TV. The final product was released in 1972.
1970 saw a wave of new subsidiaries: first, the Franek Software Division, then, the Franek Firmware Division, and last, but not least, the Franek Food Technology Division.
In 1972, Franek Inc. announced a new line of personal computers. The Franekcomputer 73 eventually dropped in 1973, and there is still a new version every two years.
In 1974, Franek Inc. started the development of the Franekconsole 2. This video game console released in 1976. Notably, this is the first Franekconsole to have a handheld version.
1975-1991: Franek Enterprises[]
In 1975, Franek Inc. changed its name to Franek Enterprises, its current name. One year later, in 1976, TeleOS development started for the new Franekphone 77.0. The last version of TeleOS was released for the Franekphone 95.1, in 1996. Later Franekphone versions used FranekOS instead.
In 1977, Franek Enterprises created a DOS operating system for computers, to which people could contribute. LibreDOS 78, the first version, released in 1978, and versions continue releasing every 3 years.
In 1982, Franek Enterprises created a FOSS graphical operating system, called FranekOS. The first version is called FranekOS 1.0, and was finished in October 1984. It was followed with FranekOS 2.0 in May 1986. A major feature of FranekOS 1.0 is the ability to browse early TCP/IP depositories. FranekOS is currently a big operating system worldwide.
In 1984, Franek Enterprises created an official BBS on Usenet, and created a special subsidiary to manage it. In 2015, this subdivision was closed. The BBS still exists, but is no longer officially updated.
1991-present: new technologies[]
1991-2011: WWW and the new millennium[]
In August 1991, Franek Enterprises created the Franek World Wide Web Division. The official Franek Enterprises website launched in December 1991, and official websites for specific products and services, like FranekOS, launched in January and February 1992. FranekOS 3.1, finished in December 1991, had a new Franek Internet browser after an update from January 1992, which now browsed WWW, instead of TCP/IP depositories, like the Franek Internet of FranekOS 2.0-3.0, and 3.1 pre-update. This version also has an Online Suite, where there are various online tools. In 1996, the Franek World Wide Web Division was renamed to the Franek Web Division.
In 1999 and 2000, multiple exceptions were made to the usual xx/1xx numbering to celebrate the new millennium. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: the Franekphone 2000 (1999), the Franekphone 2000.1 (2000), the FranekTV 2000 (2000), the Franekcomputer 2000 (1999), LibreDOS 2000 (1999). There are also products which did not fall under this: the Franek Math Machine 24 (1999), the Franekconsole 6 (1998), FranekOS 4.2 (May 1999), and FranekOS 5.0 (September 1999).
From 2003 to 2010/11, Franek Enterprises leaned into the Frutiger Aero aestethic. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: the 2004-2006 logo, the 2006-2012 logo, FranekOS 6.0 (October 2006), FranekOS 6.1 (July 2008), and the design language of the Franekconsole 7 (2005).
2011-present: the present day[]
In 2011, Franek Enterprises created the Franek Computerized Reality Division, and announced a new lineup of VR headsets, called FranekVR. The first version, FranekVR 13, released in 2013. Notably, this is the first Franek Enterprises hardware product released after 1999, aside from the Math Machine, whose number has two digits. FranekVR versions continue releasing every two years. The Franek Computerized Reality Division is also responsible for other reality technology, including augmented and mixed reality.
In 2020, Franek Enterprises entered the machine learning section, followed by the AI section in 2021. Their chatbot, the Franek Chatbot, released in 2022.
In October 2025, to celebrate the Franek Enterprises' 200th foundation anniversary, a book was announced: 200 Years of Franek Enterprises: the Making of a Tech Giant. It is to be released on April 29, 2026, the company's 200th anniversary.
As of December 2025, Franek Enterprises is over 199 years old, has 10 subdivisions, and approximately 400,000 employees worldwide.
